The group was too large. The speaker allowed too much discussion. Not enough control. Little to no refreshments. BLS and anaphylaxis was very short. Moving and handling should be in a ward setting. Hoist had no battery life and was not checked by the speaker to ensure it would work. I think the course for BLS and Anaphylaxis should be a stand alone course. I had no need for anything else.
I was a bit disturbed by the information relayed to us by the course tutor when talking about radicalisation. She told the class that radicalisation was the far right? I was waiting for the lady to finish the sentence with something like “ and also the far left” or explaining it didn’t have to be political , that it could be religious etc . This was not forthcoming ? I found this bizarre.? I questioned the lady and asked what about other forms of radicalisation. She closed her hands and said such as? Before I could answer, she said do you mean religious? I said “no, not just religious but any form of extremist ideology, for instance the far left”She then replied yes ,but they all fall under and descend from extreme far right. I was absolutely flabbergasted…….. I found Karen engaging but and very knowledgeable in other areas. I do feel like this needs to be highlighted today. It was unhelpful to understanding the broad spectrum of radicalisation and picking out one unit as the culprit for it all …. In all honesty, it was slightly bizarre.
I feel that it would’ve been okay as a refresher course but not for someone just starting out in health care. It was not informative enough, if questions were brought forward they were shut down quite quickly if it was a different opinion or scenario to the trainer. The practical was not informative, people that had NEVER used the hoist before instead of being shown 1-1 and talked through it was just put as the client in the hoist, was done in groups of 4 while. The trainer went to the back of the room or was talking to people sat watching. We were shown a slides sheet for all of 15 seconds, not spoken or shown how to use it to move patients and no one was allowed to practice with it. We were not shown or spoken to about all different slings, how to ensure you have the right sling to fit the patient. Luckily I have been in care since leaving college and have had very in depth and good training and have a lot of experience so I know good practice but if I was new to care and that was all my training on manual handling and two slides in safeguarding etc then I would not feel confident and would request more training with a different provider.

The training covered far too much in short space of time Information very vague on serious training needs Plenty of equipment people not assessed to competency
The venue was poor, one drink served in the morning and no cafe available. Gil demonstrated his element and allowed for practice but the other trainer didnt. The course started almost an hour late and the start times each session was dictated to by those who eventually decided to arrive. One of the delegate on day one was asleep most of the morning. Basic detail re risk assessment and root cause.
It’s a very interesting and entertaining training session.
This course was probably informative for carers/ healthcare . Definitely not a course for highly trained educated knowledgeable registered nurses. I have moving and handling passport NHS which is more in depth and J feel was a more informative course. I didn't feel the course leader had a lot of knowledge and some of her knowledge and practice not up to date.
