This course was very interesting and I have learned a lot. We should not be judgemental when people are going through suicidal thoughts or any mental health problems

The Suicide First Aid course introduced me to real things that can happen in life. It is a good habit to always watch out for others and if you recognize any behavioural changes it is better to report it or talk to that person before anything critical happens.

I have gained knowledge and understanding about suicide, and how I can identify suicidal signs, feelings and behaviours though it is difficult to identify thoughts unless they verbalise them. I learned how to approach, asking the right questions to get more information, or asking questions like ''Are you thinking about suicide'', what action to take or intervention to support them. I have an understanding of the causing factors of suicide such as biological, psychological, history, identity and current life event situation. All these build up my confidence to have a non-judgmental, compassionate, person-centred and empathetic approach to someone who is exposed to suicidal feelings. I have observed that effective communication and listening are very important in meeting people's needs and alleviating dangers or deteriorations.

Would thoroughly recommend the course and the trainer Vicky. Even from someone who doesn't deal with people struggling with mental health issues or suicidal thoughts as part of their job, I found the course an invaluable resource in terms of feeling able to help friends/family/colleagues/boyfriend or even a stranger you encounter in the street/sat on a bridge thinking about jumping.
