It was an interesting and great training. It was interactive and I could recall a lot of things and I also learnt new things. We talked about the Arousal Model, Factors Affecting Behaviour, Function of Behaviour, Recording and lots more. Function of Behaviour was one of the points that stood out for me where we talked about EATS; which stands for Escape/avoid something, Attention, Tangible Reward and Sensory.

I learned that behaviors of concern are actually typical responses, not abnormal ones. I also learned about the Arousal Model, which includes the baseline, trigger, escalation phase, behaviors of concern, and de-escalation phase. All behavior is a form of communication, and behaviors of concern are no exception. Additionally, I gained understanding of the functions of behavior using the EATS framework (Escape, Attention, Tangible reward, and Sensory function). I also learned about strategies such as diversion and distraction.

It was a good opportunity to refresh my memory. I learnt about emphasizing on the primary intervention in order to avoid escalation and trying as much as possible to avoid restrictive measures. We learnt about proper and accurate recording.
