Overall the course is very useful for managing patients challenging behaviour. I'd like to think this would be useful in my practice
The course is good but I do feel like it repeats its self alot. Shine training should be kept with shine and kept to the minimum with this training i feel this course could be completed in a day . Jonh was very good as an instructor
The training was really beneficial, The Arousal Model. It teaches me that people tend to experience heightened baseline to express their feelings,and should be observing the cues to manage the situation by diversion and distraction before it escalated to from baseline to loss of control.
Nothing really 'wrong' simply that the course content did not feel wholly relevant to my role. The best part was the non-restrictive and restrictive training as Kelly explains and demonstrates this very well and made us all feel really confident. The Shine section was interesting but I di think it would be more like THRIVE training that I have encountered previously. Perhaps equip the trainer with more information about the trainees then Kelly might have been able to tailor it more?

Generally I felt the course was too weighted towards responding to undesired behaviour. There was little or no content about what to do when children are behaving well. Although we need strategies to deal with undesired behaviour one of the biggest tools we have to improving behaviour is creating the right culture and a key time to do that is when pupils are doing what we want them to do. A little too much time was spent on the details of legal frameworks. At the end of the day a summary of legal rights, responsibilities and protections are all we need to know; the detail of each piece of legislation is overloading. A little more time on physical aspects would have been good; a few more repetitions of each movement.
Trainer gave too many anecdotes, always ended up delayed. Learnt new skills, physically. Some of the material was irrelevant to my work area, or was things I already knew.
The style of training being a lot of theory was a lot in three days. It was delivered well where trainers engaged with staff and asked staff to engage with the material. In practice, there are areas the course may not always cover. The course leaders however appeared very knowledgable in the pbs and sherwood information.
The hours of the course is too long. Overall the content of the course is stimulated.
