The training normalised the actions surrounding preventing suicide and provided amazing tools for handling these situations. It made me more confident in helping the person(s) involved and how we can best work together to prevent any future incidents.

The course was informative and informal. Peoples previous experiences and feelings were acknowledged. It felt like a safe space to explore such an anxiety provoking subject. I have taken away from this course that actually asking if someone feels suicidal can feel helpful and opens the door for working with someone to move forward. I really need to make the conversation about the other person and their experience rather than trying to look for solutions too soon. It was also helpful to look at self harm behaviours and how the treatment of the person who has carried out these acts needs positive reinforcement, so that they may feel more able to express their feelings in less harmful ways in the future.
