Manual Handling in Health & Social Care

Description

This course is designed to meet with the Health and Safety at Work Act and Manual Handling Operations Regulations regarding manual handling of people within health & social care settings. You will develop the knowledge, understanding and practical skills around manual handling, with an aim to minimise risk of injury to yourself and patients. You will be able to identify hazards and reduce risk while promoting patient independence. You will learn about moving and handling equipment, demonstrate safe moving and handling techniques, and understanding of how to assist a falling or fallen person.

What you will learn

Understand the relevant legislation that underpins manual handling of people

Understand the importance of the musco-skeletal system and the spine

Identify manual handling hazards and demonstrate knowledge on risk reduction including promoting patient independence

Perform safe moving and handling techniques, using relevant equipment and in simulated scenarios Demonstrate knowledge on how to assist a falling or fallen person, including injury assessment and how to assist from the floor
