Description
Platfform Wellbeing offer two one-day courses focused on supporting charities to work using a strength-based approach. Traditional methods often focus on problems and shortcomings. No one wants constant reminders of their struggles or areas to improve on and at its worst, this can be retraumatising. Strength-based approaches give people power by respecting what they can do and trusting that they know best what will help. Strengths-based working asks: What are people good at? What resources do they have? What can they be proud of? What gives them strength?
What you will learn
These courses approach strength-based working from two angles:
1) Our course for frontline workers and team leaders (strength-based approached for frontline workers) can build and sustain positive working relationships with people engaged with housing, homelessness and care services, introducing key concepts like building relationships and finding ways to share power. We explore how problem focused ways of working can be a barrier to thriving and provides an overview of how our understanding of mental health has changed over time. We also share strategies and tools for how we can better support peoples’ needs through building positive relationships, recognising strengths and sharing power.
2) Our course for charity leaders (creating the conditions for strength-based working) is designed to help leadership teams create the conditions for their frontline teams to be able to build and sustain positive working relationships with people seeking support from the charity sector. Leaders will learn to recognise what’s getting in the way of their teams being able to work in a strength-based way and empower change that supports and values this approach. By focusing on this approach, leaders can enhance engagement, wellbeing, and positive outcomes across the board.
